2024 Frostbite

Frostbite starts 1 January at the Newport Yacht Club. After 1/1 we will race every Sunday through April 14 excluding Easter Sunday on 31 March. We most often have 3 classes, depending on the number of competitors that show up on any given Sunday. We start setting up the boats, classes and course at 1130. Position from the previous weeks racing determines the class splits. The armchair sailors in the bar get the preferred bleacher seats.

COVID-19 and 2024 racing

Hopefully this finds you safe and healthy. If it becomes necessary, COVID requirements will be in place as directed by the officers of NYC and the state of RI. We anticipate a “normal” frostbite season and welcome sailors to use the clubhouse and Main Deck. Please, if you are not feeling well, have been experiencing any cold and flu like symptoms, please stay home. It’s only a sail boat race and not worth the risk to your fellow competitors.

FEES:

NYC Member: $150.00
NYC Junior Member: $75
Non-Member Newport Resident: $200
Non-Member/Non-Resident: $225
Non-Member Junior (14-17):  $75  (must be 14 as of January 1 or with Frostbite Committee approval)

We are an informal, enthusiastic, sailing group and do our best to run as many races as possible with safety and sportsmanship our priority. We have a 20/20 rule that we do not sail if under 20 degrees or if it is blowing 20 and above – they are after all, only 10’ dinghies and that water is cold!
